A WORD ABOUT VAVATRON

It is a hoax.  I wrote it as an April Fools gag, which I had actually wanted to publish on March 31.  As Japan is 18 hours ahead of us, 6:00 a.m. March 31 in Seattle would be April Fools day in Japan.

The idea for this little prank, along with the game, came from Chris Charla and Mike Mika.

To those of you who were confused as to what to believe, I apologize for the delay in tipping my hand.  With the debate over the story's validity still raging, my editor wanted to give readers a few extra days to decide for themselves.

And for those of you who were wondering, those were quotes from Will Wright, Eddie Adlum, David Rosen, Eugene Jarvis, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Owen Rubin, Al Alcorn, et. al.

Chris Taylor played along on a different level, allowing me to use his name.

Casey Staubach, on the other hand, never existed.

I guess I was lucky in not getting punked because I didn't read the article.... Had another April Fool prankster to contend with on that day (my son).

Had we come out on March 31, I think we would have suckered even more people. I would have been fooled had I been on the other side of the prank. I mean, sure the story is a bit on the ridiculous side, but with the quotes and the game right there... and me being such a trusting sort...

Gah!!

You totally got me. I so thought it was true. I even have the game on ,my flash drive. Can't believe I fell for that. Although it was a pretty good hoax.

Have you ever seen the movies, A Mighty Wind or Best in Show? I wanted the Vavatron story to read like one of those movies. Actually, I had originally planned to write it as a novel, but I think it was jsut long enough like this.

I just can't believe you put so much damn work into it! I might not have believed it if it weren't for the seemingly huge amount of prep-work and research that had to have gone into that 8 page or so article... great prank, very well done.

Thanks, Jon

No have not seen those movies. But it does read like a story and not an article, but I didn't think much of it at the time

I agree with Jon. I was like all tripped out by just how much time ad effort went into that. I mean, how many people would write eight pages of like research paper material, just to prank some people? Clearly, only Steven Kent.
